Media Release - Department of Water and Energy Date: 4 December 2008 REPLENISHMENT FLOW FOR BULLATALE CREEK The NSW Department of Water and Energy today announced that a small stock and domestic replenishment flow would be provided to Bullatale Creek, near Deniliquin.
“A limited release of water will be provided to Bullatale Creek immediately,” said the Department’s Deputy Director-General, David Harriss.
“The purpose of this release is to provide water for essential stock and domestic needs and to benefit the environment. It cannot be used for irrigation.
“This will be the first flow in Bullatale Creek since January and will give landholders along the creek access to fresh water for stock and domestic use and help replenish the creek environment.”
Mr Harriss said that all water in Bullatale Creek was now subject to a 323 Order under the Water Management Act 2000, which means that it can only be used for stock and domestic purposes and taken by a pump with a 50 mm or less inlet diameter.
“I must stress that we have a very limited amount of water available and that we expect this replenishment flow to be complete before Christmas,” he said.
“It’s vital that this water is protected for stock and domestic use only.
“Anyone found to be using this water illegally could face harsh penalties.”
Similar replenishment flows have been provided in the Wakool River system.
A copy of the 323 Order can be obtained from the Department’s Deniliquin office by phoning (03) 5898 3900.
