The NSW Salinity Strategy funded a number of pilot projects and schemes to look at the practical issues in delivering effective on ground programs to help halt and manage dryland salinity. The projects looked at incentive schemes for delivery of environmental services, the scale of the work needed achieve resource condition outcomes, the triggers and barriers to implementing on-ground changes in rural NSW and incentives to introduce Environmental Management Systems to help make farming enterprises more sustainable.

These projects are the:

• Heartlands Project in the Murray/Murrumbidgee region of NSW and northern Victoria,
• TARGET Project in the Central West of NSW,
• Liverpool Plains Project in Namoi region around Gunnedah, and
• NSW Environmental Services Scheme covering specified priority salinity and acid sulphate soil catchments in NSW.
