  • Explain to your friends that wetlands are OK!

  • Find out where the wetlands are in your local area.

  • Find out what wetland projects there are in your local area.

  • Familiarise yourself with the principles for the sustainable management of wetlands given under the NSW Wetlands Management Policy 1996.

  • Get to know your local wetlands and discover the plants, waterbirds and other creatures that live in them. Click here to find out more about the plants and animals of NSW Wetlands.

  • Protect the wildlife by keeping your cat inside at night.

  • Use water wisely so that more will be available for wetlands.

  • Protect the water quality of your wetland. Don't tip any nasties down the drain such as sump oil, cooking oil or paint.

  • Wash the car on the lawn instead of the road or driveway to limit the amount of detergent running into wetlands.

  • Throw your rubbish in the bin or recycle it - don't throw it into your local wetland.

  • To avoid weed invasion don't through your garden clippings over the fence.

  • If your local wetland has become infested with weeds notify your local authority (For more see "Water Weeds").
